The Department of Biology was founded in the academic year 1998-1999 for both the Morning and Evening studies as the College was part of Almustansiriya University. Masters Studies started in the academic year 2002-2003 with majors (Microscopic Biology, Animal Biology and Plant Biology).
The department of biology aimed at preparing graduates who were competent in specialized scientific efficiencies and fields that were able to work in various institutions as well as partaking in supporting a number of ministries as the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Environment and Ministry of Agriculture with scientific experiences within these fields
