The department of computer science at college of education of pure science held a discussion symposium entitled “E-learning concept and application” in the main Hall of the conferences and symposiums on Monday, 20/12/2016. The goal of the symposium was to give the definition of e-learning, its properties and types and what are its obstacles and conditions for success it in University. The symposium included a definition of e-learning, which is a system of interactive learning provides the learner by using information and communication technologies is based on an integrated digital electronic environment offers courses through electronic networks. The importance of e-learning is in resolving the knowledge explosion problem, the growing appetite for education, expand acceptance in education and allow opportunities for those who have a problem were not able to enroll in universities because of their actions with the lowest cost. Symposium showed that it is important characteristics of e-learning that it offers through computer networks digital multimedia content such as texts written or spoken, sound effects, graphics and footage video to integrate these media with each other to achieve the specific goals of educational and administered this education electronically so that it provides a number of services and tasks to the process of the department for education and learning is a small cost compared to the traditional education as well as being available any possibility to reach him at any time, any place. It has also showed types of e-learning synchronous and asynchronous and clarified what is meant both types and what are the pros and cons of each type, as well as the conditions for the success of e-learning and e-learning quality standards and employing e-learning in teaching. The symposium also showed some of the obstacles that stand in the way of e-learning, such as the rapid development of global standards requires many adjustments in the electronic courses, as well as the lack of sufficient awareness among members of the community in this type of education. Also, the certificates awarded through it will always be controversial and non-recognition by some Official agencies. The recommendations of the symposium was to encourage this type of education being kept pace with the great development undergone by the world in the field of information and communication technology. Also, the fact that it eliminated distances and determine the time factor and gives the opportunity to the largest possible segment to complete the study and at the lowest cost.
